Topic: Spinning, Knitting and Weaving the Threads

Humans physically spin yarn or thread from raw, fluffy fiber. And the individual threads of our lives are knit together to form our well-woven life stories. Spiders spin webs to catch dinner; polititians often put a spin on things to catch people. But, of course, we humans also spin tales for entertainment.

Those words, to spin, to weave, to knit, are used for so many things and in so many ways. How fundamental those concepts are to human experience!

We weave stories, spin tales and knit together ideas to form a whole pattern. We use these expressions drawn from (oops, another “thread” image) the basic need to pull together (oops!) the many threads of the individual elements that, when woven together, make up the fabric of our clothing, our curtains and of our lives.

And what about the story of Penelope, long awaiting the return of her husband Odysseus? She wove a funeral shroud for her father-in-law, busily working during the day, having told the many hovering suitors that she would decide upon one of them to marry when it was finished. But at night, secretly, she unraveled the weaving. A wily delay tactic, worthy of a queen.

Got any ideas? Knit together some of those, weave a good story, and spin it out to us.

Traditional or personal, original or literary. We’d love to hear your story.

Eight minutes or less please.

Your story could be something new you’re developing, or an old favorite. Listeners as well as tellers are welcomed.

We look forward to gathering with you for the stories.

If you are newly joining us, we ask that you take your first session to listen to our stories and to observe our process.

Please RSVP and/or ask questions to both Lucinda and Regina; email addresses are below.
